Christian Heitzer is a German Attorney-at-law as well as a graduated engineer (University of Applied Sciences). He has a broad specialized knowledge in the field of intellectual property rights and civil procedure law because of his legal and technical training and his professional activities by several law firms of patent attorneys and attorneys-at-law. His exceptional scientific and legal qualifications enable him to handle both the legal and technical aspects of a case.
After the successful completion of his studies of physical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich, he studied law at the University of Augsburg and passed his first state examination. Christian Heitzer received part of his legal clerkship at the District Court Dusseldorf for patent cases. After qualifying as an Attorney-at-law, he worked as an associate Attorney-at-law and patent engineer at two internationally operating and recommended law firms of patent attorneys and attorneys-at-law in Munich and London.
He represents clients amongst others before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the European Patent Office and the Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market (OHIM). His practice focuses on prosecution, opposition and revocation proceedings concerning German and European patents, patent litigation, opinions on infringement and legal validity of patents, e.g. in the fields of mechanical engineering, automotive industry, electrical engineering, processing technology and medical technology. He also gives advice in IP-relevant contractual matters, in particular licensing, research and development and cooperation agreements.
A further focal point of his field of work is the matters of Employees’ Inventions Law. Christian Heitzer handles counselling of employees and employers on questioning and procedural matters relating the rights of employees’ inventions, counselling concerning compensation of employees’ inventions, tracking of legal deadlines regarding employees’ inventions, designing and implementing administrative systems to deal with employees’ inventions, arbitration procedures at the arbitration committee of the German Patent and Trademark Office, representation of the clients in legal proceedings about employee inventor’s compensation between employer and employee, and calculation of the remuneration for the invention.
The mother tongue of Christian Heitzer is German. Besides German, he speaks fluently English.
